Celebrating Day of the Dead
Day of the Dead is a combination of ancient Aztec custom of celebrating your ancestors with All Souls' Day. Traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, Day of the Dead is about honoring your deceased ancestors and celebrating their memory.
Some people think Day of the Dead is like Halloween, but it's actually it's own holiday with no connection to Halloween. You may have seen the vibrant skeletons, known as Calveras, in a lot of Day of the Dead celebrations. These life size papier-mâché or clay skeletons are part of how Mexican's honor the dead. They are often posed in activities the deceased liked during their lives – dancing, playing musical instruments, eating, and more!
